Woven Moments: Photo, Paper, Thread, September 17
Join visiting artist, Christine Mauersberger to learn how to weave without a loom using your own photos, handmade papers, and/or thread/yarn. Remember weaving colored papers in grade school? It was simple and fun. You do not need to know how to weave but you will soon understand the technique and be on your way to hours of fun with simple tools. You will bring your own photograph(s) no larger than 5” x 7” ready to cut them into strips for weaving. Usually a photograph that is printed on 8 ½”x 11” paper is large enough. I like to print my pictures at 5” x 7” on a letter-sized paper, allowing for a nice margin around the print. Don’t have a photo? Perhaps you’ve collected specialty papers or old National Geographic maps just waiting for the ‘right’ time to use them. Or you have a stash of beautiful yarns or threads that you once planned to knit with but now, they are pretty skeins of color just waiting for a job to do.

Master Class, Whidbey Island, WA
If you have taken a workshop from me, then this class is for you. This workshop was created in response to previous attendees of my workshops who wanted to spend time working with me on their own individual projects.
If you have not taken a workshop from me, but are a self-starter and have ideas you want to experience before purchasing the tools, then this may be for you too!
I will have the studio set up with an indigo pot, geli plates, inks, and brayers, a sewing machine, and prepared cyanotype paper and fabric and cyanotype chemicals to paint onto your own paper or fabric. The class fee covers the supplies and my attention to you. If you know me, you know that I am generous with what I provide. But in the case where you try a technique and want to spend all your time with it, I will have extra supplies for purchase.
How will this workshop be different from the Binding Time workshop? The difference is that there is no lesson plan for a similar group end-product.
We will have short group discussions about how to talk about your artwork, whether it is for selling it or for entering shows. And you will have in-depth one-on-one private time with me to review your work. Please bring a small collection of work to the workshop.
This may sound like a lot of work for 4 days and it is. The cool part is that you will be following your heart and I will support you.
Once you enroll, I will send a note to you to set up either a zoom call or phone call to discuss your ideas. We can dive into what you are working on to prepare for a successful workshop catered for you.

If you have any questions, please feel free to write to me at info@christinemauersberger.com

Cheers!

Binding Time, Whidbey Island, WA
This workshop has been designed to allow participants to create individual pages using both paper and fabric, which we will dip into an indigo vat, draw on using inks and watercolors, and embroider upon using stitched marks invoked by our own breath and bodies.
