Walking

It is strange how the weather fluctuates in Cleveland, Ohio in December. We here in NE Ohio expect that once the snow begins to fall, we will not see a warm day until March. But that is not true. One day we have low visibility and very cold temperatures while a few days later it's sunny and dogs are frolicking at the beach.

If you have followed my blog since 2009, you'll know that I appreciate connectedness. I am joyful over friendships and the deep union I have with my beloved husband. Most cherished are those who mutually express sadness or grief and we lend our tender words of comfort. Or when we express joy over good news without judgement or envy. The fluctuations of the weather reflect the ebb and flow of those around me. To say I 'feel' the presence of others in my life sounds emotional and mystical but my sentiment is true.  Sometimes, certain people come to mind and then I have a call, or a letter, or an email or a FB post.

We are all connected and I am glad you are here.

I hope you are enjoying the end of the year and delight in your accomplishments, strengths, and love and friendship.

I do agree with Brené Brown who says that Connection is what makes something better. I think that to be connected to each other is what makes life good.

“I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship.”

Eco Print for Your Lifestyle

Susie Frazier is a Cleveland, OH artist who has an earth-minded shop in the 78th Street Studios. She is committed to making and finishing materials locally. Her studio encompasses fine art, fashion, and home furnishing.

Susie has been selling my eco print scarves since early November and now is selling my EXTRA Large Eco Print Scarves as a curtains. The blank scarves are available here.

Recently, she commissioned me to make a few  eco print pillows for the showroom and I delivered them this morning.

The pillows, scarves, table-toppers and curtains look engaging and fresh in her place.

What Makes Something Better is Connection

Today a close friend shared some distressing news about her own health. She said that from the neck down, she's in great shape, but from the neck up, she's a mess. She has 2 health issues that are difficult to manage and despite her constant vigilance, she had a bad spell last evening.

What did I say?

" I have no words", I said. "I am crying for you. I hear what you're saying and that sucks." But I also found myself saying things like, "you are one of the most vigilant people I know and you're doing everything you can" and "at least you're going to the Dr. today. At least this spell happened yesterday so that you're on the tail end of this spell so the he can see it."

She knows that my words are given with love. I wanted to show empathy and found myself adding a bit of sympathy in the mix.

Then someone posted this link on FB today and it resonated with me, I hope it does with you.

I adore  Dr Brené Brown's TED talk here and here about vulnerability and now this her talk about empathy and connection that Dr. Brown gave at the Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts is my new favorite. It as been animated by Katy Davis
