Testing fabric

red gouache on paper size 11" x 14". Jan.2, 2014

It's cold. OK, it's a blizzard today and I am not willing to venture outdoors to light the fire to cook for eco prints.

I'm staying indoors and looking at my walk photos and using them as inspiration to make studies for a future stitched piece.

photo from one of my walks this fall.

That's my table and pot. in the snow.

Out my front upstairs window.

I asked new friend and customer Ruth Souza who lives on the sunny West coast of the USA to test out the new woolsy-silky fabric in my shop. I sent her 1/2 yard and she cheerfully prepared two samples.

Ruth said that she placed the botanical materials on the WOOL side for both samples.

Here is sample 1.

SILK SIDE, Woolsy-Silky. Eco print with 3 varieties of eucalyptus, rose leaves (that had been soaking in a magic solution), and seed pods. Ruth rolled it around a rusty pipe.

SILK SIDE, Woolsy-Silky. Eco print with the same botanicals as the first sample, and then over-dyed with marigold petals and ferns and let it sit for a few days.

Picture of the Photograph Ruth sent to me showing the different types of eucalyptus she used.

Much thanks to Ruth for being a eco print fabric tester. She wrote,

"Hope you see the potential of this cloth. It was fun to try a new fabric."

P.S. I'm listening to Kate Bush 50 words for Snow on iTunes.

Stay warm. or cool, depending on where you live.

Ruth Katzenstein Souza had stellar Eco Print results on the Silky Merino Jersey Knit (More of this special fabric is being knit as I write this, ETA Jan. 31, 2014). Email me if you want to receive an email notice when the fabric is back in stock.

Stacy Mann, San Diego, CA, is kicking it in high gear with her eco print fine wool gauze scarves. She said that she used Eucalyptus, rose leaves, plum leaves and an iron bath with some cochineal.
