On January 1, 2018 I made this buttonhole journal. The interior signatures are folded Strathmore brand drawing paper. It's what I had on hand and I wanted to use paper that would work for multimedia and that felt good in my hands.
I saw this book described on Bari Zaki's website and found information in Keith A Smiths Non-Adhesive Binding Volume 1. Also found 2 useful Youtube videos. 1 video is short and sweet, the other is a 2-video series.
Using materials I had on hand that day, I decided to just do it and not to worry about being too perfect or having just the right paper.
The size of the interior pages dictated the size of the book. I thought whatever size the paper ended up being once I folded them, I'd use that measurement to create the exterior.
The final size is approximately 7 1/4" wide x 8 1/2" wide x 1" deep.
Types of materials included handmade papers, a sketchbook with nice paper (to use for the interior signatures), double-sided tape, an awl, a bone folder, glue, linen thread, a large-eyed needle, xacto knife, self-healing cutting matt and an afternoon to myself.
I hope you find a place to start your new year.
I'm already drawing and writing in this nice book.
