How and Why I was asked to make this work
In November, 2015, I was asked to create a series of works for a local hospital. The art consultant for the hospital had seen the drawings I made using silver ink on black paper and asked whether I could make something with the same look and feel, but in blues and greens to evoke water.
Born from drawings I made while in Vermont
When I was attending my fellowship at the Vermont Study Center in fall, 2015, I used drawing as a daily practice to begin to focus on what I would accomplish for the remainder of the day.

Pictures of my process to complete the commission
The images below show the process I undertook to think about how to make similar work, using fine art materials.
I did not know how to use watercolor before this commission. My fabulous artist-husband gave me a tutorial and then it was up to me to perform. I had to make it work. At first, I said, Let's collaborate, you paint and I draw, then he immediately said, no, I'll show you how to handle the paint and then you do it.
Glad he did, and now I'm off to paint more.
